The video capabilities of the iPhone 3Gs have already changed the way iPhone users memorize their experiences.  With the upcoming iPhone 4, Apple continues to improve on this revolutionary technological advancement.  It will be able to record and display videos in HD (720p) and will take advantage of its display-side camera to enable face-to-face chat between two callers, sort of like a Skype conversation.  The FaceTime function, as the iPhone’s developers call it, is something completely new to the mobile communications industry in terms of usability and user base.  These additions to the iPhone will open up new possibilities for some interesting and amazing apps.  But since it’s not out yet, we can only guess at what apps developers will come up with based on what’s out there now for the iPhone 3GS. Most of the video recording and editing apps up until now have been focused on clip editing and adding effects (similar to photoshop apps).  Apps like ReelDirector , an app that adds clip and scene transition effects, and CinemaFX , an app that adds lighting effects to scenes, are becoming common.  Chances are that future apps will follow these examples even if it will be quite challenging to adapt their performance to the stronger video capabilities of the iPhone 4. Another thing that can be said about the current generation of video editing apps is that they will compete with the relatively inexpensive iMovie which might have an apple style unique usability. Some of these apps might possibly become obsolete or sell at much lower price than now.   Will developers give up on video editing applications or will they come up with new and innovative apps based on what they’ve learned from the current video editing apps?  We’ll just have to wait couple of months for the answers to these questions.
