Measuring 2.28inches wide, 4.48 inches long, 0.61 inch deep and The Samsung SGH-A877 aka Impression weighs 5.3 ounces. The handset definitely makes an impression when you hold it in your hand or look at its curvaceous design and dark blue casing.

The Impression boasts of touch screen, which comes with Samsung’s AMOLED display. The 3.25-inch diagonally display is rather small but it still looks bright and saturated with brilliant colors. Just below the display, you will find the Talk, End/power, and Clear buttons. The right spine of the handset houses the lock key and a camera shutter, while the volume rocker and a shortcut control are located on the left spine. The shortcut controls allows you to access phone dialer, messaging menu, music player, Web browser, and the games menu. The top edge of the device houses Samsung’s proprietary headset jack/charger jack, which means you cannot use standard headset and cannot use both peripherals together. The back of the handset houses the camera lens and speaker.

The Impression boasts of the most spacious keyboard that you will find on any handset. The keyboard can be accessed by sliding the phone to the right. The keys are large and easy to press, which means you are less likely to makes typing errors. Unlike LG Xenon, the Impression has only one dedicated key for the messaging application. You will have to use the shift and function keys and arrow navigation buttons for launching other applications and scrolling through menus.

The handset has impressive blend of basic and advanced features. The basic features include speakerphone, vibrate mode, stopwatch, alarm clock, voice recorder, world clock, calendar, task list, memo pad, calculator, timer, currency and unit converter.

The advanced users will like the stereo Bluetooth, USB mass storage, PC syncing, file manager, and integrated GPS with AT&T Navigator. Other advanced features include IM with support for various messengers, Mobile E-mail, which supports AOL, AIM, Yahoo, Hotmail, and Bell South accounts but the Impression doesn’t support IMAP4 accounts.

The Impression boasts of a 3-megapixel camera that captures images in five resolutions. Other camera options include five scene mode, four quality settings, four color effects, exposure metering, smile detection and much more. The built-in camcorder records videos in two resolutions: 320×240 and 176×144.

The Impression is 3G handset, which supports AT&T’s wireless broadband multimedia services. These services include Cellular Video, AT&T Mobile Music, and other applications that you will get on other AT&T phones. The music player supports all the popular formats such as, MP3, AAC, eAAC+, and WMA. The music application features include create and edit playlist, album art, shuffle and repeat mode, and an airplane mode.

The Impression has a rated battery life of just three hours talk time and 10.4 days of standby time.

    I really enjoy the Impression the full keyboard is really handy and the phone is set up very nicely. I would recommend this phone to anyone wanting a touchscreen or a keyboard.
