For many people, their Facebook profile is merely an extension of themselves. So why resort to prescribed layouts? A recent trend is emerging among apps to address this conundrum, enabling banners and enhanced profile pics to give the page a little needed sprucing. Here are a few that I’ve found that can help you come through even more: Frames for Facebook (Free): You can create, edit, and share images to create an even more prominent profile pic and have a picture span across the new photo stream. You can take new photos, use photos from your iPhone library, or bring back old favorites from your Facebook history, and use the touch tools from Frames to customize the placement (e.g. how many lines of text above the picture), alignment, zoom, and general appearance of your new picture/banner. Frames has been the most used of these sorts of profile-primping apps, with an average of 3 stars out of 93 ratings. Pimp Your Profile (Free): If you’re looking for something a bit that requires a bit less maintenance, Pimp Your Profile is your solution. It does effectively the same thing that Frames does, but instead of having you choose the where and how of the picture’s appearance, Pimp Your Profile boasts one-step cropping and uploading of images to your Facebook profile picture and banner. iProfile Image for Facebook ($0.99 or Free): While I have yet to discern how the paid and free versions differ for this app, this again does the same thing as the previous apps, with creating extended versions of profile pics. However, iProfile lets you choose how many lines to use for the banner. Facebook Banner Generator ($0.99): As the name suggests, this app is devoted solely to the banner, meaning your actual profile pic can still be of you smiling with your friends while your banner can convey, for example, that sweet car you’ve been lusting after (see above). All you do is choose what picture and which segment of the picture to take the banner from, and the app does the rest, automatically cropping the segment into five squares and uploading it to your profile. These are just a sample of a few. There are tons more out there that do effectively the same things, with expanding and customizing your Facebook photo appearance, placing a summary of your life into banner form. While I feel like they are all basically the same, with a few minor changes in functionality, I would be very curious to hear if you have any other Facebook framing favorites — have you come across any that take profile customization to the next level?
